handcrafted with integrity

Sophie grew up on the Maine coast, and had her first taste of jewelry making in an apprenticeship program in high school. She was immediately hooked, finding that using her hands to fabricate and build something deeply resonated with her. She went on to earn a BFA in Metalsmithing at Massachusetts College of Art and Design before launching her eponymous jewelry line in 2009, shortly after graduating.

Sophie opened her boutique, Ore, in Boston's South End in 2013. Ore’s relaxed vibe reflects Sophie’s view of handmade fine jewelry as a very special, but decidedly unfussy part of everyday wear. Ore features independent designers, and each piece of jewelry in Ore has been thoughtfully designed and handmade in limited quantities.

Using timeworn hammers, anvils, hand tools, and torches, Sophie’s environmentally and socially responsible jewelry is crafted with the highest quality recycled gold and silver. Sophie favors antique Old Mine Cut and Old European diamonds (hand-cut centuries ago and reclaimed today from estate jewelry), for ethics and aesthetics both - values that ring true across all her work.
